Bassett wins Ironman, Bishop McCort has a strong showing!

This weekend kicked off the highschool season at Ironman. This tournament is the hardest in season event in the country and no better place for the McCort freshmen to start their careers. The event definitely lived up to its reputation and featured 119 teams, 35 of the 50 top wrestling programs from around the country. The Crushers placed 7th, which was incredible for the fact they only took 6 wrestlers. Bo Bassett and Jax Forrest both lit up the score board and had very impressive starts to their official HS careers. They both started off with 3 straight technical falls each and gained their team alot of extra bonus points. The first day, the Crushers advanced three into the Ironman semi finals. Bassett got them off to a quick start by tech falling Anthony Mutarelli 19-4. Forrest was on next on the same mat. He quickly went to work and did the same scoing a technical fall 21-6 over Kael Lauderison. Mason Gibson was next and wrestled Marc Anthony McGowan. They battled in regulation to a 1-1 tie. In the first over time period, neither wrestler scored and it forced ultimate tie breaker, where Gibson chose bottom. McGowan was able to ride him out in the 30 seconds for the win. Mason battled back and took 5th. In the Finals, Bassett wrestled the returning Ironman champ and Oklahoma State commit, Beric Jordan. The match was very good and Bassett was able to win all three positions racking up the major decision 9-0 and claiming an Ironman Championship. Jax wrestled Luke Lilledahl in the finals. Luke is a Cadet world champion and a very good opponent. These two battled into overtime and Jax lost a heart breaker with very little time on the clock.

Devon Magro went 2-2 and had a few very strong victories. Owen McMullen and Jackson Butler both had tough draws going 0-2. The Crushers will be traveling back into Ohio this weekend for another Individual tournament. That event is Friday and Saturday.
